You’ve successfully cleaned your coffee machine, but you’ve still the Breville Espresso machine clean light on. That’s one of the most common issues that countless coffee makers face today. Though it’s not a major problem, it isn’t very pleasant. But don’t worry!

You must first understand the “clean on†mode to solve this issue. As the name suggests, the Breville Espresso machine clean mode is made for cleaning the interior part of the coffee maker. The entire cleaning process has two steps: cleaning and descaling cycles.

Yes, it’s surprising that you don’t know, but you must complete an entire descaling process. Otherwise, the clean light remains on. You can read our guide to get knowledge about the descaling cycles. So don’t wait more; follow all steps to turn off the clean light.

Why Is Your Breville Espresso Machine Clean Light On?

As stated, if the cleaning light is on, you’ll have to clean the machine properly. You’ve forgotten about the descaling method and have no idea about it. But no worry, you’re safe and your machine in both conditions. Just make sure to follow the below procedure correctly.

How To Turn Off The Breville Espresso Machine Clean Light? Step-by-Step Guide

Before we go further, there are a few things you need to know. The descaling process can’t be done with only water or home ingredients like vinegar. You must have a descaling solution for the descaling process, and you’re free to buy it anywhere you want.

Step No One – Detached The Water Tank

The first step is every coffee machine comes with a water tank. Since we’re discussing the Breville Espresso machine, the water tank will be on the backside. You have to hold the handle of the water tank, detach it from the backside, and put it on the kitchen counter.

Step No Two – Remove The Water Filter

After removing the Breville Espresso machine water tank, find the water filter attachment; it will be in the water. Remove the water filter and place it somewhere safe so you can put it back again in the tank after descaling.

Step No Three – Add Descaling Solution

Now it’s time to use the descaling solution. The Breville Espresso machine comes with a descaling solution, so you may not have to purchase it if it’s a new machine. If you don’t have the solution, it’s easily available on Amazon for a minimum of $10 – $15.

Descaling solutions come in two types: liquid and powder form. You can go with any type but remember you have to dissolve the descaling solution in the tank’s water. It’s better to use a spoon to mix both water and solution.

Step No Four – Turn On The Descaling Mode

Once you’ve added the descaling solution to the water, take the tank back to where it belongs. Then turn on the Descaling mode. There’s no specific button for it. However, you can turn it on by pressing the “power button†and the “two cup button†together for a few seconds.

Note: If you see the power button, one-cup button, and two lights turn on, it means you’re in the descaling mode.

Step No Five – Descaling Mode

This is the last step of descaling; in this step, you have to press the “one-cup button.†After clicking on the “one-cup button,†the descaling process will start. In this process, the water will run through a portafilter, steam, and hot water dispenser. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Touch the “one-cup button†to clean the portafilter.
  • Turn on the steam dial and set the steamer; the water will run through it.
  • Lastly, turn on the hot water.

Remember, it’s not only about three simple steps. These steps are the cycle; once you are done with one cycle, repeat the water running process through the portafilter, steam, and hot water dispenser. You have to repeat the process until the water in the tank finishes.

Is Clean Light Still On?

So first, understand that there are minimum chances it will happen, but it’s still a possibility that clean light will remain on even after descaling. Why? Because the light shows that the machine hasn’t been cleaned with enough water.

In this scenario, you don’t have to use the descaling solution again; only water is enough. Pour the water into the tank again and repeat the process as we mentioned above. Water will again clean the inside of the coffee machine, and the light will turn off.

Bottom Line

We hope you’ve found the solution to the “Breville Espresso machine clean light on†issue. It’s not a big issue. Instead, it shows you that you’ve forgotten about one of the most important cleaning processes, “descaling.â€

After “descaling,†the light will turn off. If it remains turned on, then follow the further process. You must repeat the “descaling†process again with simple tap water. This step will make sure that your machine is perfectly clean from the inside.
